In April, linked to our work in Science and Imagineering, Year 6 had an exciting visit to Jaguar Land Rover. On arrival we had a presentation on the history of Jaguar Land Rover and the research and development work done at Gaydon. Then we used Logicator computer software to control a set of lights, a buggy and a series of sounds. It was great! Next we did some data logging using light and temperature sensors and watched the data appear graphically on the screen. After lunch, in the Sength and Durability department we saw how JLR test vehicles to see how well they cope in different environments. A staggering 100 000 miles of driving over different road surfaces is simulated in a computer-controlled test which runs continuously on one vehicle for six weeks. It was also fascinating to find out about test driving on public roads in Land Rovers that have been camouflaged so that rival car manufacturers cannot see the shape of the vehicles!
