This term our topic for our Autumn displays were, ‘Famous Artists’. Each Class had their own artist and had a go at producing a piece of art in the unique style of their artist. Class 1 had Henri Matisse, Class 2: Georgia O’Keefe, Class 3: Giuseppe Arcimbolodo, Class 4: Gusta Klimt and Class 5 had Wassily Kandinsky.

Class 1: Henri Matisse - We investigated spiral patterns with ribbons, pretty coloured objects, gloop and chalk. We had a go at making our own copy of Matisse’s famous collage ‘The Snail’. We did this by cutting out brightly coloured gummed paper.

Class 2: Georgia O’Keefe - We were inspired by Georgia O’Keefe to create torn paper pictures of flowers from the garden.

“I loved making the flowers. It was hard to make the spots with paint though”. Jake Year 2

Class 3: Giuseppe Arcimbolodo - We had a go at making a portrait in the style of Arcimbolodo, using the technique of collage. Can you guess who it is?

Class 4: Gusta Klimt - We recreated Gustav Klimt’s painting ‘Tree of Life’ using string and PVA glue to create the curls and the swirls of the tree’s branches.

“In the Tree of Life I can see a golden poison dart frog eating my favourite flavour polo (lemon)”. Molly Year 5

Class 5: Wassily Kandinsky - Our abstract art is based on the art of Wassily Kandinsky and is designed to give the impression of balloons in flight. What can you ‘see’ in our display?
