Christmas Tree Festival

In December 2014, children from Cradley Nursery visited St. James church in Cradley to see the spectacle of the Christmas Tree Festival. We walked all the way from Nursery to the church with our hi-vis jackets on.

When we arrived, the church was beautifully decorated with numerous Christmas trees each depicting a different Christmas carol. There were trees decorated by organisations and individuals, each with their own interpretation of a specific carol; some were brightly decorated with bells or angels, whilst others took on the more natural look and were decorated in holly and ivy. The overall impression was magical and the children were very excited when looking around at all the exhibits. The children became very animated when they located our contribution to the festival, which was decorated in the style of 'Little Donkey', each donkey made from the children's individual handprints.

After looking at all the trees on display, we sat down to enjoy the Nativity story, which was read to us by Mrs. Hames, one of our school governors. The children got to carry skilfully crafted wooden figurines, (made by Theo and Reuben’s Dad at school) from the story and place them in the appropriate place to recreate the Nativity scene. Finally, before returning to nursery we enjoyed a biscuit while listening to 'Silent Night' and 'Little Donkey'.

A huge thank you to Mrs. Hames and Mrs. Merker for their kind help in making this such a special occasion.
